 Work Session Minutes

 

I.          President Kelly Houston called the work session meeting to order at 6:37 PM.

 

Members Present:  Kelly Houston, President; Jim Vega, Vice-President; Susan Garrison, Linda Kozminski, and Jennifer Peterson.

 

Members Absent:  Dr. Ken Rosenauer and Mark Schneeflock

 

Others Present:  Dr. David Brax, Superintendent; Dr. Tim Mattson, Assistant Superintendent; Kenny Ragland, Steve Waigand, Leisa Blair, Dyann Duncan, Dr. Julia Schmitz, and Janna Wuest, Board Secretary.

 

II.        Board President Questions/Issues:  The Board discussed the visit from Governor Jay Nixon at the High School.  Governor Nixon complimented the District for scoring over 90% on the

MSIP 5 Accreditation process.

 

Minnie Cline students sent a video for the Board members thanking them for all their hard work and dedication.

 

III.      The Board reviewed the agenda items.

 

IV.       The Board discussed placing items (E) Nomination for MSBA Board of Directors, (F) 2014-15 Meal Prices, (G) Middle School Handbook Postingand (H) State Assessment Update to the consent agenda. 

 

V.        President Houston adjourned the work session meeting at 6:47 PM.

 

Open Session Minutes

I.          Call to Order ~ President Houston called the open session meeting to order at 7:06 PM.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

Members Present:  Kelly Houston, President; Jim Vega, Vice-President; Susan Garrison, Linda Kozminski, and Jennifer Peterson.

 

Members Absent: Dr. Ken Rosenauer and Mark Schneeflock

 

Others Present:  Dr. David Brax, Superintendent; Dr. Tim Mattson, Assistant Superintendent; Kenny Ragland, Steve Waigand, Leisa Blair, Ron Jackson, Dr. Julia Schmitz, Dyann Duncan, Sarah Hatten, Kylee Strough, Roxanne Rooney and Janna Wuest, Board Secretary.

 

II.       Welcome and Communication from Visitors ~ none 

 

III.      Staff/Student Recognitions:

 

Steve Waigand, Assistant Principal at Minnie Clinerecently received the Outstanding Assistant Principal Award by the Northwest Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals. 

 

Annie Maier, third Grade Teacher at Minnie Cline, was recently recognized by Apple Market as a “Teacher Who Makes a Difference”.  She was surprised by the owners of Apple Market and KQ2 with a $50 gift certificate!

 

IV.       United Way President Kylee Strough and Campaign Director Sarah Hatten presented the Board the Bronze Award to recognize the staff for its generous giving. In the 2013 campaign Savannah R-III staff members pledged over $9,000 to the United Way of Greater St. Joseph.

 

V.        Ms. Garrison made the motion to place items E, F, G and H, on the consent agenda. Mr. Vega seconded the motion.  Motion passed with a 5 – 0 vote.

 

VI.       Ms. Kozminski made the motion to adopt the agenda including items placed on the consent agenda.  Mr. Vega seconded the motion.  Motion passed with a 5 - 0 vote.

 

A.        Approval of the January 14, 2014 minutes, as presented. 

 

B.        Approval of bills dated:  January 2014 ~ $2,275,925.82, February 2014 ~$295,783.51.

C.         Personnel List was accepted by the Board.

VII.     Action Items:  Requires Motion

 

D.        General Journal ~ $7,707,803.39.  Ms. Kozminski made the motion to approve the general journal.   Ms. Peterson seconded the motion.  Motion carried with a 5 – 0 vote.

VIII.    District Reports ~ The High School, Middle School, Elementary Schools and Special Services presented their monthly district reports. 

 

IX.       Ms. Garrison made the motion to adjourn to closed session for discussion of personnel matters; hiring, firing, disciplining or promoting of employees; preparation, including any discussions or work product, on behalf of a public governmental body or its representatives for negotiations with employee groups; and records which are protected from disclosure by law; per section referenced under Section 610.21, Subsection 1, 3, 9, 13, and 14 of the Revised Statues of Missouri and that the minutes and any vote that may occur pertaining to be made part of the executive session record and be maintained as such.  Mr. Vega seconded the motion. Motion carried with the following roll call vote:  Mr. Houston – aye, Ms. Garrison – aye, Ms. Kozminski – aye, Ms. Peterson – aye, and Mr. Vega – aye.  5 – 0 vote. Time:  7:19 PM

 

The Board returned to Open Session at 8:04 PM.

 

X.        Ms. Garrison made the motion to adjourn the meeting.  ­­Ms. Kozminski seconded the motion.  Motion carried with a 5 – 0 vote.  TIME:  8:04 PM.
