Board of Education Meeting

November 13, 2018


Recognition: The Board recognized Aaron Harris and Durham Bus Company for their help with students during a recent evacuation for the smell of gas and the 2018 Lady Savage Softball team for making school history this year with our first ever District Softball Championship win. 


New Hires: The Board hired Caleb Wiley as a Para for Helena Elementary.  Welcome to the tribe!


Transfers:  None 


Resignations:  Resignations were accepted from Janet Enriquez, Minnie Cline Para and Mike Jennings, Middle School Custodian.   


Retirement: None.


Extra Duty: Chad McCoy was hired as Assistant High School Basketball Coach, and Natalie Smith was hired as Assistant Speech and Debate Sponsor.     


Substitute Teachers: Amy Eagleburger, Jacquelin Stites, Bret Spitzer, and Michelle Siljander have been approved to sub.   


Surplus Property: 3 surplus floor scrubbers and 2 Fair Play scoreboards for sale on  


Policy and Procedure: The Board adopted Policy GDBDA ~ Support Staff Leaves.  Check the Board agenda for more information. 


Program Reviews: The Board reviewed the current Student Health Services, Title I and ELL Programs.  Check the Board agenda for more information. 


Student Performance Data: Ashley Anderson, Curriculum Director, presented the Board with information about the district’s beginning of the year benchmark testing. 


Ad Hoc Committees: A report was given from each Board Ad Hoc Committee.  The Transportation Committee presented a recommendation to stagger start times of the High School (10 minutes) and Middle School (5 minutes) slightly to accommodate the need to have all busses ready to load at the time of dismissal for each school. 

The Facilities Committee would like the District to look into an RFQ for a facilities audit.  The recommendation is for the district to fully evaluate our current needs before a plan for the future is made.

Grant Applications: Dr. Kurre approved Grant Applications for the Northwest Region Classroom Award, Target Field Trip Grant, Donors Choose, and Kadable for Everyone. 


Building Reports: Kelly Warren spoke to the Board about the happenings in her classrooms currently. 


The next meeting of the Savannah R-III Board of Education will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at 7:00 PM in the Central Office Meeting Room.   There will be a Board Retreat held on Monday, November 19, 2018, from 3 to 8 pm in the Central Office Meeting Room.
