This year Savannah received the honor of having Student Body President, senior Alexandra Bowie, be recognized at the Student Council State Convention. She is among a select few dedicated students from around the state to earn the award of “Distinguished Student Leader”.
In order to earn this award, Bowie has had to commit a large amount of her time to her home council and the Missouri Association of Student Councils (MASC) as a unit. Bowie has attended many District and State Conventions as a member of MASC. She has also had the privilege of leading a workshop at a STUCO event and attending the organization’s Summer Leadership Workshop.
“I have been to camp in Fulton, Missouri every Summer since the seventh grade. Student Council, and MASC, more than anything, has been something that I have enjoyed for most of my student life. I can’t believe this is my last year as a high school council member, but I know that MASC has taught me more than anything else I have ever been part of,” Bowie said.
Every year, SHS sends its upcoming officers to State. This year, those officers are juniors Emily Bledsoe, Jillian Cook, Madison Heftye and Zac Vega. They are excited to travel to Timberland High School in Wentzville, MO, on March 19 to 21 to learn more about how they can improve the school for next year and work with leaders from all seven MASC districts.
“Well, I’m looking forward to listening to the speakers. I want to bring some of their great ideas to our school. It will also be a good time to reconnect with some people I met over the summer at STUCO camp,” Vega said.
Congratulations to Bowie for receiving recognition for all her hard work. And to those attending STUCO State, best wishes and good luck!
