The Savannah High School Quiz Bowl Team has added another conference win for the 23rd year in a row. The 2020-2021 Quiz Bowl team has added many accomplishments to their records. They have had winning records in every tournament and placed in top 10 in most tournaments.
They are preparing for the upcoming meets and for Districts. They hope to place well at Districts and continue all the way to State. They are excited to be able to compete in person instead of the virtual meets in which they have been competing. Their coaches, varsity, Mrs. Kaysie Hamilton and junior varsity, Mr. Cole Haugen, are trying to prepare the team as much as they can. They are grateful to be able to coach the team and be a part of the winning Conference streak.
“My dream job was open, in my favorite teacher's room at SHS, and I wanted it bad. I wanted to come home. So, when I was asked if I would do Quiz Bowl, I agreed, because I wanted to be here. Six years of teaching and coaching in the District later, and I am still here,” Mrs. Hamilton said.
The members practice many times during the week; they work hard to accomplish their goals and try to beat their own personal and school records. They are proud to be a part of the team through each win and loss. The coaches try to encourage them throughout each practice, meet and tournament. They try to advise them in ways that apply to not only quiz bowl, but in a ways that they can take the advice with them in life.
“I have had some awesome kids on my various teams who I still stay in touch with and truly love. They are like my kids and I am so proud of where they all wind up! The relationships we build and the bonds we make are unmatched. They're simply the best part of the job,” Mrs. Hamilton said.
Savannah High School is proud to have such a successful team representing our school. We can't wait to see what they accomplish next and will support them no matter if they win or lose. Good luck on the rest of your season.
