Health Occ 1 and 2 recently visited the NCMC Savannah campus for a Nursing and Health Sciences Career Day. Students had an opportunity to tour the labs for nursing, radiologic technology, surgical technology, and sonography while also listening to a panel of students and instructors as they shared information about their programs. #WeAreSR3 #SR3Family

Before the break, guest speakers Dr. Mark Mills, Dr. Cary Chevalier, and four students from the wildlife conservation program came from the biology department at Missouri Western State University to talk to biology, environmental science, and zoology classes. Dr. Mills brought in different herps (reptiles and amphibians) to talk about their importance in the ecosystem and the environmental problems they are facing. Dr. Chevalier talked about his radio telemetry research on raccoons and opossums and showed students how radio tracking works. They also talked about their research in the biology department and emphasized the importance of Missouri Western being an applied learning university where undergraduates receive hands-on experiences in their career field. #WeAreSR3

All campuses will be closed on Friday, October 27th as a Thank You to our staff who have worked extra hard this week (and over the last few weeks) during Parent/Teacher conferences.
Do you ever get so busy with afterschool sports and activities that you wish you could sleep in a few extra minutes and send the kids in their PJs? Wish, granted! It's Red Ribbon Week on all of our SR3 campuses.
Don't forget; there's no school tomorrow for students while we give our teachers time to collaborate and prepare for Parent/Teacher Conferences.
This season, our 'Marching Savages' are featuring the musical stylings of the one and only Elvis Presley! To help them prepare, Ben Johnson - local tribute artist, gave them a special performance and spoke to them about the life of Elvis and what his music means to the world. Ben even stayed around to take individual photos with every band member who asked.😍 Having Elvis live and in person was a great inspiration boost for the band and a fun way to connect with a local artist. On behalf of the Band and the District, please help us say a big "Thank you, Thank you very much!" to Ben Johnson.
PS - Don't miss the band's light show THIS Friday during halftime of the varsity football game. This show never disappoints, and this year, it will feature 'Can't Help Falling in Love,' 'Jailhouse Rock,' and 'All Shook Up.' Kick-off is at 7, and who knows, you might even see our own Savage Elvis on the field.😉
On Wednesday, Oct. 4, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will conduct a nationwide test of the Wireless Emergency Alert System that will involve all consumer cell phones.
At about 1:20 pm Central Time, a test message will display on personal mobile phones in either English or in Spanish, depending on the language settings of the wireless device. The purpose of the test is to ensure that the systems continue to be effective means of warning the public about emergencies, particularly those on the national level. In case the Oct. 4 test is postponed due to widespread severe weather or other significant events, the backup testing date is Oct. 11.
